CIPA Awards

Class Acts

‘Class Acts: Stories from Emily Griffith Opportunity School’ won first place in the Non-fiction/Experience category at the annual Colorado Independent Publishers Association awards dinner help March 27, 2007 in Denver.

Awards were presented in eighteen categories for outstanding books from independent publishers, and Class Acts obtained the third highest overall score among the forty-nine awards presented.

For Class Acts, Dr. Brink interviewed Opportunity School students from seven decades and wrote their inspiring stories of escape from abuse and homelessness, learning English in a new land, completing high school, founding businesses, preparing for medical school, and making great leaps in their careers. Brink is a former administrator at the Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

EVVY judges called the book: “Clear, complete, written by someone with not only a passion for her subject but access to important historical records as well.” “An excellent addition to the Denver history archive–and a fun read, too.”
